Description:

The Fuel Procurement team is responsible for sourcing, managing and physical trading all of Drax’s fuel requirements. This entails the purchasing, management and optimisation of fuel, management of fuel supply relationships, development of the global biomass market and developing Drax’s biomass fuel supply strategy.

Specifically oversee the management of existing Canadian, European, Brazilian and trader biomass supply contracts and relationships as well as the origination, negotiation and executed of any new contracts in this same region. Support development of Drax’s biomass fuel supply strategy, and a senior representative for the team in other Group biomass initiatives. .Project Lead for other commercial business initiatives that contribute to group strategy and value on an ad hoc basis.

Main duties:

  • Oversee the management existing biomass contract regional portfolio ensuring that stakeholders are effectively engaged and managed (Sustainability, Logistics, Risk, Finance, Legal, Chemistry)

  • Oversee and execute contract amendments and new long term contracts in the regional portfolio meeting all business requirements and value targets

  • Ensure the relationships with all suppliers in the region are effectively managed to proactively foresee issues to put Drax in the best position possible and to enhance Drax’s strong reputation

  • Support the Head of Biomass and Supply and Development Director in the development of the medium to long term fuel strategy

  • Senior representative for the team in other Group biomass initiatives

  • Project lead for other commercial business initiatives that contribute to group strategy and value on an ad hoc basis

  • Lead, motivate, train and develop direct report to maintain an effective workplace, with appropriate cover for periods of absence

  • Manage senior stakeholders/project members throughout the whole of Drax Group

  • Senior team representative to support/cover for Head of Biomass and a go to biomass person for other parts of the Group

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:

Minimum: Degree level or equivalent

Job Holder must have:

  • Strong negotiation skills

  • Experienced in execution and management of contracts

  • Use proprietary contract evaluation models and publically available market analysis to develop commercial strategy and tactics

  • Good business acumen across a wide range of areas including finance and commercial

  • Physical supply chain experience

  • Experience of sustainability/environmental policy within the UK and Europe

  • Good numerical skills and the ability to use these when making commercial decisions and challenge/corroborate financial analysis

  • Good communication and people skills with the ability to communicate and influence at all levels of the organisation and external counterparties

  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and integrity of work undertaken

  • Advanced MS Office skills, especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint

  • Experience in leading business critical commercial projects and managing a programme of different initiatives
